This man is on holiday on the beach in Folkestone, enjoying a well-earned rest from a life of hard work.
In the 1920s, when this comic postcard was produced, most people worked very long hours, often in strenuous jobs, including factory work (shown in grey on the postcard).
Many also worked in heavy industry, farm work or down the coal mines.
Some only had one week’s holiday a year.
His red nose and face may be the result of sunburn, drinking too much beer, or both!
