Overview

Children research the origins of flag days in WW1 to help people affected by the war, and charities that help people in war-torn countries today. They create a penny flag design for a WW1 charity and host a flag day for a modern-day charity that helps child victims of war.

Children create a flag design for a real or imaginary WW1 charity inspired by those you have researched.

You might even decide to host a Charity Flag Day and sell your flags around the school. You could do this to raise money for a charity that helps victims of war today such as War Child.

Top tip. Flags can be drawn or printed on adhesive backed paper to avoid the need for dangerous pins. A sheet of pre-cut white self-adhesive address labels would be ideal, of the kind you get for sending out mail shots. Ask at the school office.
