In World War 2 everyone was encouraged to help the war effort.
As a result of shortages people were asked to Make Do and Mend.
This meant making do with clothes and other items they already had, rather than buying new ones, and mending things that were damaged or broken.
People were also asked to knit warm clothes for the millions of soldiers, sailors and airmen who were serving in the war.
This book includes 20 knitting patterns for woolly jumpers, socks, gloves, mittens and scarves suitable for British servicemen.
