Increased knowledge and understanding of WW2 Home Front, and the bombing of Folkestone in WW2.

Pupils research Folkestone’s important part in the story, gathering evidence on one or more of the following:

• Memories, photos and film footage of Dunkirk soldiers arriving in the town (or in other Kent ports)
• How Folkestone people handed them sandwiches, sweets and cigarettes through the train windows
• About the small boat owners and ships’ crews from Folkestone who went to rescue troops from the Dunkirk beaches
• The personal stories of local soldiers who were evacuated from Dunkirk, taken prisoner or killed
• The story of a Dunkirk Little Ship.

Working in small teams and using the evidence they have gathered, junior film-makers create a black and white WW2 style newsreel film to highlight the important role of Folkestone in the Dunkirk evacuation.
