From the 16th to 19th centuries, explorers and collectors displayed rare and unusual objects in special Cabinets of Curiosity.
These cabinets had drawers and compartments for all sorts of fascinating finds.
They included treasures from Ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome, stuffed animals, fossils, minerals and objects from exotic lands.
They became some of the first museum collections.
